About the Conference
The Origins Federation Conference is an opportunity to bring together world class researchers in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Planetary Sciences, and Astronomy to showcase their work.
Our goal for the conference is to provide opportunities for attendees to discuss research results, identify new opportunities for inquiry, and foster collaborations across disciplines. The conference will feature research talks, extended poster sessions, and ample time for conversations for all attendees.
Venue
The conference will take place on the campus of the University of Chicago in Ida Noyes Hall. Talks will be given in the Max Palevsky Cinema while posters will be up all week in the nearby Cloister Club.
Lunch will be provided on-site for all registered attendees each day of the conference.

About the Federation
Publicly announced on March 4, 2023 in advance of the inaugural Origins Conference, the Origins Federation is a global consortium of research centers and institutes dedicated to advancing knowledge of the origins of life in the universe. The Federation was founded and currently consists of four institutional research centers – Origins of Life Initiative (Harvard University), Centre for the Origin & Prevalence of Life (ETH-Zurich), Center for the Origins of Life (University of Chicago), and the Leverhulme Centre for Life in the Universe (University of Cambridge).
History of the Event
- This is the third annual meeting of the Origins Federation. The idea of such a federation was an outgrowth of discussions at the First Life in the Universe Conference held in Sofia, Bulgaria in October 2022.
- Several attendees continued developing the idea creating, in the months that followed, the Origins Federation and hosting the first Origins Conference at Harvard University September 12-15, 2023 with the theme, Life in the Universe II.
- The Leverhulme Centre for Life in the Universe at the University of Cambridge hosted the second Origins Conference September 10-13, 2024.
- This year, the Center for the Origins of Life at the University of Chicago has the honor of hosting the Federation’s third annual conference.
